Getting the right alignment when you start out is really important. The vinyl is designed to be repositionable so as long as you don’t put too much pressure down you should be able to lift it and reposition it as many times as you want.
Align the two holes on the bottom with the two cameras, try to get it as close as possible and then make sure the Oculus logo is evenly aligned with the hole.
Once you’ve gotten the right alignment, lightly press down a line down the middle, right below the Oculus logo.
By pressing down the line in the middle after aligning the decal, ensures your skin will stay in place. Work one side at a time and press lightly in an outward motion with your thumb. Peel back lightly and reposition as needed.
Pressing lightly will ensure the vinyl isn’t sticking too much. If you get a wrinkle, you can lift up the vinyl around the wrinkle and work it out.
Some slight wrinkles might occur near the slits, those can be removed with some light heat using a heat gun, lighter or blow dryer. (See Step 5)
Once you have the large area attached to the oculus. Work your way around, wrapping the edges.
Always work from the inside out, and peel back lightly any slits that have wrinkles or are mispositioned.
⚠ ADULT SUPERVISION REQUIRED – We recommend using a heat gun if you don’t have a heat gun, you can use a blow dryer, heat lamp, or lighter. Hold the heat 2-3 inches away from the device only for a few seconds in each area where you see wrinkles.
Heat will help the vinyl expand and wrap around the curved edges. While the vinyl is hot, use a squeegee or plastic card to get all the wrinkles out. If you have big wrinkles (over half inch) wait for the vinyl to cool down, peel the area around lightly and try to massage the wrinkle out.
